Case Study – CCTV Control Room

CCTV Control Room

Security Wise recently completed a state-of-the-art CCTV control room installation for one of their long-standing commercial customers. The client required an advanced security solution to monitor their multiple sites, public areas, parking areas, and office spaces. They approached Security Wise with the goal of enhancing site surveillance, improving incident response times, and ensuring the safety of their staff, the public and assets.

Client Needs and Challenges

The client’s business operates across a large site with multiple access points and sensitive areas requiring constant monitoring. Their existing security system was lacking centralised control. Key concerns included:

  1. Limited Visibility: Blind spots in key areas such as loading bays and perimeter fences.
  2. Slow Incident Response: Security personnel had to manually monitor individual camera feeds spread across different systems, slowing down response times to potential security breaches.

Given these challenges, Security Wise was tasked with designing a tailored solution that would centralise security operations, maximise camera coverage, and provide real-time, actionable insights to security personnel.

Solution: A Centralised CCTV Control Room

After conducting a comprehensive site survey, our team at Security Wise got to work designing and putting together plans for a new centralised CCTV control room that would address the client’s specific needs. The key features of the solution included:

  1. Centralised Monitoring Hub
We designed and set up a control room equipped with multiple high-definition monitors, allowing security staff to view and manage all camera feeds from a single location. The control room featured ergonomic workstations and advanced control software that enables seamless camera switching, zooming, and playback. This central hub was designed to be the nerve centre for all security activities on-site.
  2. Full Camera Coverage with PTZ Cameras
To eliminate blind spots, we installed a range of high-resolution pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras across the site. These cameras provide 360-degree coverage and can be remotely controlled to focus on specific areas, track activity, and zoom in for detailed views. Static cameras were also installed in areas requiring constant surveillance, such as entrances, exits, and sensitive zones like warehouses.
  3. Integrated Motion Detection and Alarms
The system included intelligent video analytics software capable of detecting unusual activity such as motion in restricted areas or after-hours movement. This triggered real-time alerts in the control room, enabling the security team to respond immediately. The alarms were linked to an incident management system that logged each event for future analysis.
  4. Remote Viewing and Mobile Access
In addition to the physical control room, the system was designed with remote viewing capabilities. Senior security managers and authorised personnel could access live feeds and recorded footage from mobile devices or desktops, ensuring 24/7 surveillance even when off-site.
  5. Data Storage and Backup
The CCTV footage was securely stored on a network video recorders with ample storage capacity to retain footage for up to 90 days, ensuring compliance with data retention policies. Redundant backups were set up to safeguard against potential system failures or data loss.

 Results and Benefits

The installation of the new CCTV control room delivered significant improvements to the client’s security operations:

  • Enhanced Security and Safety: The comprehensive camera coverage and advanced monitoring have allowed the client’s security team to detect and respond to potential security threats more quickly and efficiently. Since installation, the client has reported a reduction in thefts and unauthorised access incidents on-site.
  • Increased Operational Efficiency: The centralised control room has streamlined the client’s surveillance processes, reducing the time spent on manual monitoring and improving communication between security personnel. This has resulted in faster incident response times and more effective handling of security concerns.
  • Cost Savings: By upgrading to a modern, integrated CCTV system, the client has saved on the cost of maintaining outdated equipment and minimised the need for additional security personnel. The improved system has also helped to prevent thefts and property damage.

Conclusion

Security Wise’s installation of a fully equipped CCTV control room has transformed the client’s approach to security. By providing them with a scalable, high-performance solution tailored to their needs, we have helped them improve site security, operational efficiency, and overall safety. The project highlights our commitment to delivering bespoke security solutions that not only meet but exceed our clients’ expectations.
